I got staples removed today. There must have been like 30 little staples holding my leg together. I would have taken a picture but I don't want to show the jungle of hair growing on my leg. :S
Taking the staples out was a little more awkward than the "pulling hair" feeling the nurse was trying to describe. I have another three weeks to immobilize the fracture so I had the option of replacing it with a plaster cast, a fiberglass cast or an air cast. Of course, I opted for the most expensive option (air cast) but already, I feel a difference. Hopefully, my benefits will cover it.
The air cast is much lighter than the plaster cast and I have the control to change the pressure settings in the cast. In the plaster cast I had some pressure points that bugged me every so often. It's gone with the air cast. And with the plaster cast every time I took a shower, I had to wrap a plastic bag over my leg and seal it with electrical tape. With the air cast, I can take it off and wash my leg (And possibly shave. YAY!). They recommended that I wait a few days though before I do because of the holes from the staples.
I have another three more weeks before I can start putting weight on my foot. I'm anxious for the time to go by. I'm so motivated to walk on two feet again. The things you really miss. I feel like a 15 year old waiting to get their drivers license.
